The verdict/Hidden gem·Chill·Tourists

This is a cozy, home-based farm experience where you can crack macadamia nuts with the owners and walk through the coffee and fruit trees. It's genuinely good for those who want a personal, low-key visit with the owners and a small-lot feel that avoids the larger commercial operations. If you're looking for a polished tasting room, a formal tour, or a large-scale operation, this is not the fit for you.

The story

We are a multi-generational family farm! Bill and Diane own the original farm. Suzanne and Jacque, are on farm nearby and manage all farms as one under the Lions Gate brand. Bill Jr. helps with the ever-ongoing farm construction/repair activities. And now, the third and fourth generation, Maile and great-granddaughter Mai also have a farm. Our elders, Barbara and Ken have both left us now, but many of our visitors may remember “Gram’s from our phone line and “Gramps† if they took a tour. We are a 15-acre working farm in South Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. We currently have 12 acres of coffee, and 3 acres of the macadamia nuts, both of which we sell commercially. Coffee has been farmed at Lions Gate for over a century and we process our coffee in the original mill that dates to 1942.
